Best Season to Visit

If we talk about the weather of Chiang Mai is really nice throughout the year to visit. The best time to visit is between November and February. During these months, the weather is pleasantly cool and dry, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 22°C. During this time also have several local festivals, including:

Yi Peng ( Lantern Festival – Chiang Mai )

  • Loy Krathong and Yi Peng (usually in November): Famous for its lantern releases and river ceremonies.
  • Chiang Mai Flower Festival (February): During this time lots of flower’s bloom.
  • Songkran (Thai New Year): The water festival takes place in mid-April.

Pro tip – In the northern region, there are flood situations due to heavy rainfall so avoid traveling during August- September- October

    Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

    This iconic temple, perched on a mountain, offers stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city. I visited Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in 1383, it’s famous for its legendary founding story involving a white elephant. The temple features a golden chedi, intricate Buddha statues, and a 306-step Naga staircase. I enjoyed stunning views of Chiang Mai from the top and felt the spiritual significance of the place

    Opening & Closing Time: Daily- 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

    Entrance Fee: 30 THB for adults, free for children

    Transportation

    • Songthaew (Red Truck): Take a ride from the city center it costs – 50 THB / person
    • Taxi: Easy to get everywhere can also use apps like BOLT & GRAB – approx. 300 THB.
    • Motorbike Rental: The best way to rent and roam is around 200-300 THB per day.

    Pro Tip: Visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful experience.

    Old City Temples (Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh)

    Is a biggest market in Chiang Mai offering a wide range of goods, from handicrafts to street food. It’s a great place to shop for souvenirs and enjoy local delicacies.

    Entrance Fee: Free

    Transportation

    • Songthaew (Red Truck): Take a ride from the city center it costs -10 THB / person
    • Walk: Walkable within city If staying nearby hotels.
    • Rent a bicycle: It is also another best option for about 50 THB per day.
    • Tuk-tuk: Enjoy the ride for 100 THB (Fix the price before sitting)

    Pro Tip: Keep some cash and also enjoy the local food with mouth watering fruits.

    Elephant Nature Park

    Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary

    A sanctuary for rescued elephants, offering visitors a chance to learn about and meet with big and gentle animals. Also known as Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary.

    Opening & Closing Times: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

    Entrance Fee: 2,500 THB for adults, 1,250 THB for children (More then 12 year)

    Transportation

    • Songthaew: If you are far from the city center it costs around 450-600 THB per person
    • Taxi: Take 1 hour and book a taxi so min. 4 people can sit. 600-750 THB.
    • Other best option: Book a full package which costs 2,500 THB/ per person for a full day. Include pickup and drop transportation from the hotel and lunch.

    Pro Tip: Book your visit well in advance. Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting wet or muddy also Bring a change of clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
